Why is the cleat pattern different for some football cleats?

The cleat pattern on the bottom of the football cleats can be for two basic reasons. The first is the basic need. On certain surfaces, astroturf, a differnt cleat will be needed verse say natural grass. the other reason is the Marketing aspect. Each company has there own cleat design.

There are several reasons for the cleat patterns on shoes. One of them is that each brand manufactures the cleats to their own specifications, so there is no one pattern that is universally uses, a pair of nikes is different than adidas and reebok. Another reason is the position of the player wearing the shoe and the grip they need.
