Why is my puppy eating rocks and sand?

They are trying to push down something that is irritating their lower esophagus. Sometimes bone fragments or other detritus becomes stuck and cannot be vomited out.

It could be that the puppy is not digesting their food properly and so they are doing this as way to do so. Also it could be that they are sick and so they are eating that thinking it will make them feel better.

Your puppy may be teething and will nibble on anything and everything in sight. There could also be a taste of something in the sand, such as salt.

Just like human babies, baby dogs are curious about the world and taste things in order to learn about the world around them. Although, eating rocks will be very bad for the puppy and you should try to keep him away from areas that have a lot of rocks that he could eat.

Sometimes this can just be experimentation or play, yet often it can be a sign of a vitamin or mineral imbalance. The pup may have worms and is anemic.

I have a dog too. Her name is Jerry she is eating rocks and sand too. My dog sees something fun in that rocks. Maybe your dog see`s the same thing in rocks. I dont know about the sand.
