Why is my engine making a knocking and whistle noise?

An engine should not be making those noises. I would take it immediately to a mechanic. It sounds like has some serious internal problems.

The knocking and whistly noise could be caused by internal problem in the engine or may be due to blockage in plug holes and piston head.

Usually a knocking and whistling sound is a vacuum leak or a bad pully in the drive system. Try isolating the exact cause of the whistling and knocking by turning on and off options like air conditioning and heating. Often knocking comes from either pistons or a pully that is going out.

This is generally due to poor engine conditions,the mileage the car has used and the oil level in the engine. Other reasons would be piston damage and you might want to check on that with your mechanic.
