Gum is bad for the environment because it is non-biodegradable and neither species can digest it. Chewing gum is actually banned in Singapore and is fined in the UK.

Chewing gum is a non-biodegradable material. Neither humans nor animals can digest it. It causes nasty black spots in sidewalks and under chairs and tables. It is difficult to clean and often many types of chemicals are used to rid it from surfaces. Those chemicals can travel into the ocean.
