Why does my Sanyo camera automatically shut off?

I am only guessing (I don't have the identical camera), but this sounds like a power-saving feature, to stop your batteries getting drained. It should not be happening when you are actively taking pictures, but only when the camera has been idle for a while. Some cameras let you adjust the time before shutdown. Check the manual.

Your camera is probably shutting off due to a couple reasons. If the camera has an error it will sometimes auto shut down to reset itself. Most of the time a camera will shut down is that it is trying to save power, and will shut down after you have not used it in a certain length of time.

Seems it is a problem about the batteries. Most of the cameras need more power than usual AA batteries. Buy better batteries specially made for cameras. If it does not solve your problem, contact to the service, it can't hurt. I hope this solves your problem, that is what i did for my broken camera anyways.

The shut-off mechanism guarantees that the battery will not be unecessarily drained if the camera is not being used. Overheating has also been reported with this camera and automatic shutoff prevents the circuitry from overheating, which may negatively impact the memory card. The shut-off feature is actually sought after by camera users.

You should check to see if the battery has run down. Try letting the camera charge overnight and see if the problem is still there. If so you may want to check your warranty terms to see if repairs are still able to be covered for your camera at this time.
