One cause of white spots especially in a mixed aquarium is from the fish fighting. There is also a pretty common bacteria that can be deadly called ich. If the spots are not from trauma they are most likely ich. Medicine can be purchased at any pet store.

White spots on your goldfish is a sign of Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, or Ich. It is a common problem, and can be caused by any stress such as a chill or poor water conditions. Ich spreads rapidly and can be fatal to your fish if untreated.

White spots on a goldfish is an indication of white spot disease. This common goldfish disease occurs due to poor water quality or a change in water temperature. This disease can spread quickly and you should treat your fish with the proper medication as soon as the spots are noticed.
