If the carpet is at a location that you eat your meal, chances are you spilled some food and the dog still smells it.

The main reason your dog may be licking your carpet is the simple fact that the dog smells an odor of food that is left over from crumbs dropping on the carpet or even an afterscent of food that you may have thrown down for your dog. Another reason could just be that your dog might have a cleaning instinct.

There is nothing to worry about it as it is the habbit of the dogs.Check if the carpet has any spill over of non-veg food.

Normally they will lick the carpet because there are crumbs there. Often dogs will eat their treats on the carpet, and then later go back and lick up the crumbs. This can often happen if you eat over the carpet as well. Sometimes, though, dogs are just weird like that.

I'm having a german spitz dog.He usually take all the eatables to his carpet before eating it. He will lick the carpet lying in it. If he saw us watching him he pretend like sleeping.I think my dog lick the carpet since the eatables smell will be there in the carpet even he finish eating those eatables.
