Children express anxiety and frustration in different ways. When a child resorts to aggressive actions it can be due to feelings of insecurity or a desire for more attention.

Your child may be in need of attention or perhaps he is angry about something. The best thing to do would be to talk to your child and ask him why he hits other children. There may be more to the story that just hasn't been found yet. He needs to know that it is wrong to hit others.

I'd guess that your child doesn't receive strict enough discipline at home. It's important to, very very early on, establish how wrong it is for your child to partake in that kind of behavior. It's probably still not to late to do so.

Your child is craving attention. He does not have the social skills to interact positively with his peers. Thus, he acts out in anger to get what he craves.

You NEED to get him to stop this. Tell him it's not nice to smack other kids. He probably has learned this behavior from someone else. It could be from parents, relatives or other kids he plays with.
