It may be due to irritants in your home that your child has come in contact with. Smoke, animal hair and extreme dust can cause this problem.

Your little guy could have allergies or the air in your home or neighborhood could be dirty from fumes or cigarette smoke. Children can irritate their eyes by touching things and then touching their eyes, as well. Keep the air and the kid's hands clean and visit a pediatrician.

While eye infections or excessive rubbing are possibilities, allergies are the most likely culprit. Children can be allergic to almost anything, including dust and invisible molds. The only way to find out for certain what is causing the problem is to see a doctor. Most allergies can be treated with medication.
