A musty smell is probably mold growing in your heater housing. This means that your drain tube is plugged. Find the drain on under the hood and clean it out.

There are a bunch of reasons this can happen. firstcheck from things under the dash and around the vents that may have gotten inside.Next if somthing got up in the engine compartment and died it would smeel though the vents. The most likly cause may be a cabin air filter that just needs replacement.

could be a dead rat got up in your dash (happened to me). Had to take the whole dash out and there he was in the air vents.

Well in most cases there is typically mildew or mold inside your ac condenser housing. The condenser tends to generate water that can lead to mold growth. To get rid of it you can either by a special kit designed specifically for this or disassemble it and clean it out yourself.

Own a 2009 Tahoe, noticed similar smell, took it to nearest Chevrolet dealership and they had not a clue whats causing problem instead fixed a cap at a cost of 170. Still driving with smell in cabin. :(  add a comment

Make sure that no one has stuck some kind of bad smelling stuff under your hood, down on the engine, or in the air conditioning ducts. This could be the cause maybe someone is playing a joke on you or maybe a cat has peed on your car and it leeked under the hood.

Typically any bad smell coming from you vent is related to you ac. The a/c condenser inside the dash can sometime accumulate mold from excess moisture. Makes sure they drain is unclogged and then use some a/c spray cleaner to clean it out.

Its most likely age and collection of particles over time. They make air vent treatments to remove the smell. Or you could pull the dash apart and clean them. Small rodent often die in the heating systems.

you probably have a dead mouse or other small animal trapped in a vent somewhere that is rotting. you could have nasty coolant thats in the heater core also. get a coolant flush.

You might want to look at replaceing your in cabin air filter. If this doesn't take away the smell then take it to a dealer to have see if they can put smelly stuff through the blower motor.

there will be two problems. 1. the pipe of air vent may be damage somewhere check it properly or it may be dirty enough so open it and wash it with fragrance liquid soap with clean water dry it and fix it up.
