For a guy, obviously there's sex potential with women friends that is just not there with my male friends.

It's helpful to a woman to have someone who relates to the things she goes through as a woman. For a man, it gives him an added perspective on life.

We do need women friends because it is the natural phenomenon due to the gender factor. In the company of the opposite sex friend, we feel normal and relaxed.
