Why do puppies get urinary infections?

As they grow, puppies go through hormonal changes that can send their pH levels way up. In addition, they may not get enough water which causes urine to be concentrated.

Urinary infections occur most often in females due to their shorter and broader urethras. Bacteria gets into the urethra and bladders causing the symptoms.

Puppies get UTI's more often because they have a shorter urethra, making it easier for bacteria to travel. This is especially true in female puppies. Diet can also effect a uti, so make sure to monitor what the puppy is eating.

Most puppies get urinary infections due to birth defects, get the advice of a vet and check the puppy for birht defects, keep water bowls and surrounding clean, even smoking can hinder the puppy.
