Most likely, your gums are irritated and swollen. This may be because you have the beginning stages of gingivitis. You may also have a lot of tartar buildup which is putting pressure on your gums. If you continue on a dedicated regimen of flossing once a day and brushing twice a day, the bleeding will stop in about a week.

The bleeding could be caused by any number of things: For example, you could be brushing too hard and irritating your gums, you could be using a toothbrush with bristles that are too firm, you could have gingivitis, or you could have a vitamin deficiency. If the bleeding occurs frequently, you should talk to your dentist.

If your gums bleed when you brush or floss, this is a sign of gingivitis. Regular brushing, flossing, and mouthwash will help minimize this problem, but I recommend a dentist check up to make sure you don't have any infections or cavities.

Your teeth are not bleeding. It is your gums that are bleeding. It could be something easy such as brushing too hard. To be on the safe side, next time you see your dentist explain to him what is happening and have your dentist take a look. Better to be safe than sorry.

Bleeding when you brush your teeth is a sure sign of gum disease. Gum disease can strike even if you are careful to faithfully brush your teeth. Left untreated, it can result in tooth decay and loss. The only way to cure the gum disease and end the bleeding is to see a dentist.
