Random facial swelling may not be as random as you think. A few causes can be pregnancy, medications and weight gain. First thing to look at is your medications. I suggest reading through your medications and checking side effects. For instance prednisone can cause major face swelling.

Are you referring to random parts of the face or times when your whole face becomes swollen?? The most common reason for just a part of your face to become swollen is the sleeping postion you had the night before. For the entire face it is most likely the meal you had last (too much sodium? )..

If you have any teeth infection, swelling will appear on your face. In consultation with your physician, you can undergo a lever function test. Check up your ESR, and routine urine examination and see that the counts are within the permissible normal value. Try to reduce intake of excess salt.

A cause of facial swelling can come from a number of things. Facial swelling is a build up of fluid in the face tissues. Reactions such as hay fever, medications(penicillin)and other meds can cause swelling. Seafood food can cause a reaction also. Facial edema cannot be ruled out.
