Sometimes salivary glands inside the mouth can suffer trauma from repeated biting of the lip. If the injury does not go away, but instead increases in size, it is most likely a mucocele and will need to be surgically removed.

Several things could cause you to have a lump inside your bottom lip. One possible cause could be that you bit down on it accidentally while sleeping, another is that it could be an initial sign of oral thrush from malnutrition.

Bumps often appear in the mouth after a cold and are called "Canker soars". The are sore and barely visible under the skin. If you have a pierced lip it could be a keloid.
