Cats drag the butts on the floor usually because it is itching. Also they may drag their rear on the floor to remove debris that they couldn't lick off.

My cat would do this when she would have a bowel movement and it didn't come out cleanly. It makes sense that any residue would make their behind itch. Sometimes this can also be a sign of worms.

This could mean 1 of 2 things. It could mean they either have worms which should be treated with worm medicine or that they butts are just itching.

One reason for cats to do this is because they have tapeworms so look for rice like granules around the anus. Full anal glands can cause this too.

Sometimes this could be an action they do because they have an itch or it could be an irratant of some sort or worms.

Worms are the usual cause of this and can be treated with worm medicine for cats only. They might be trying to clean themselves. Hairballs are another possibility.

The cat has a sore butt. It may be that she cannot lick herself clean. Or she may have an infection or bacteria problem. Try giving the cat a bath and wash the butt gently. If the cat still exhibits this behavior, call you vet.
