Why are the Smith and Wesson Sigma series pistols so cheap?

I wonder if they are quality handguns?

Smith and Wesson Sigma Handguns are handy. Mostly used at home for family's self defense, a gun that can be used occasionally or just in case of an emergency.

The gun is so cheap because it was made to compete with the glock by Smith and Wesson at a more affordable price. Smith and Wesson stopped producing this gun due to low sales. The most common complaint about this firearm is that it's trigger is very, very badly made, that accuracy fades quickly after a short distance.

The Sigma series are so cheap because they need small incremental improvements. But considering that the Sigma is made to compete with the market dominant Austrian hand gun Glock, it is a good buy because of the smaller price.

Smith and Wesson Sigma series pistols are made over seas with cheap labor unlike more expensive makes produced in the US. The materials are not of a superior quality and standards. Smith and Wesson relies on quantity rather than quality. Given low labor cost, low quality materials, and the quantity produced it is a wonder that they are not cheaper.

I have a smith and wesson sigma series pistol SW9GVE, and it has been great. I have put approximately 2000 rounds through it and I haven't had one problem. On top of that, the sigma series are not cheap, the most cost conscious one usually retails around 458 dollars.

the smith and wesson sigma series is cheap because it is geared more toward affordable home protection as opposed to sport.

Absolutely. Smith and Wesson make quality products, and the newer Sigma is no different. It is a simple piece without all the bells and whistles, but the kinks from the older models have been ironed out.
