Your dog may have an infestation from pests, mites. It may be "fly strikes" which can become very painful and serious- if your dog is tied outside, particularly in heat, flies will very painfully, relentlessly hit on the dog's ears- use a topical deterrent meant for dogs. See a vet.

One possibility problem could be that your pet has developed ringworm. It is very commonly found in household animals and may result in small splotchy red circles.

Splotching or swelling of the ears can be signs of infection. Taking the dog to a vet would be advised.

A common issue with dogs is ear mites and this could easily be causing the issue you see in your dog. Take them to the vet to see if that is true.
