Why are my day lilies turning brown?

Daylilies are classified into three categories: dormant, semi-evergreen and evergreen. The leaves turn brown as the plant is getting ready to go into its dormant period.

After the lilies are done blooming the stems and foliage turn brown. You will need to pull the brown parts off. Then next spring your lilies will be healthy.

They could be turning brown due too much water. This could also be caused by either too much or too little sunlight. Try changing the location of your day lilies or building a temp shade. Plants are very touchy and often times much like humans you have to try many different solutions before you find the right one.

Puccinia Hemerocallidis could be the issue. A fairly new pathogen in the U. S. , this disease will present with yellow/brownish spots or streaks causing the leaf to dry up and die.

They die back for the winter - they die down to the ground but don't worry they will come back next spring and be even more beautiful. They spread and every couple of years have to be divided and you will have a lot in a short amount of time.

The reason they are turning brown is because they are dying or reaching their end period. Lilies have a short shelf life anyway, but you could prolong their life by adding some lemon water to the soil. Also, add some compost if it helps. This will prolong their shelf life and prevent browning.

you day lilies could be turning brown because there no getting enough water another reason is they might be getting to much sun and its drying the soil out a lot
