You may have accidently deleted them. Look in your recycle bin or see if someone else used your pc. It's possible it is virus related as well but not likely. Also look in your My Documents folder as they may have been moved into there inadvertantly. Do a search for one of your missing files on your desktop.

I believe before anyone can offer an answer, you would need to provide more information (more than I could ask here) - What OS and version? - Does it still have the menu/task bar? - Is anything else functional? - Is the computer plugged in? - Have you rebooted it? - Is the monitor on?

The Desktop is a very sensitive part of your computer. You may have selected to hide the icons. To fix this right click and select "Show Desktop Icons"(Arrange icons by)

Most likely windows ran the cleanup wizard and you clicked through it without thinking. If that happened they should be in the unused folder. If that's not it, then you are probably logged in as a different user than normal.

They are disapearing probablly they were deleted or the machine is on other user profile if the machine is accomodating different users. They may dissapear if the system is infected with virus or propablly the someone cut and pasted the documents in a different location within the system eg drive c or probablly in removable media like flash disks.

In some controlled environments (e.g. at work, in an internet cafe, public libraries) the user profiles are reset after logging off. This includes deletion of file links on the desktop.

This usually happens when you have 2 logins. All of your folders are probably not on your desktop but probably under your username then desktop then folders. If they are not there type in the search bar for a folder that you know was on your desktop. If it finds the folder right click it and click open file location.

most probably because either you have a virus, or the connection with the location where your windows-settings file is, is corrupted and the data can't be loaded.
