Having surgery is very stressful as well as the recovery. Pain medication adds to the vulnerability and our bodies overload on the stress hormone prolactin, which is expelled through tears.

You may be subconsiously redirecting energy that you normally us to control healing. Perhaps recovery is taking that energy. Another possibility: The surgery may have affected you deeply.

Surgery can be a traumatic experience for many people. Such trauma may release emotions that have been normally guarded otherwise.

Having surgery is stressful and depending on the type of surgery it can also be life-changing. It is not surprising that you are emotional right now. If things don't improve soon then be sure to talk to your doctor about it. He/she will be able to help.
