August Wilson, an African-American who died in 2005, wrote it. It's the sixth in a ten-part series called "Pittsburgh Cycle" that involves race relations in 1950's Pittsburgh, winning a Tony Award for Best Play in 1987.

August Wilson's "Fences" is about a man, Troy, and his son, Cory, and the generational differences between the two black men. The play asks how and if they will ever be able to reconcile.
