THe Tom & Jerry cartoons were created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. In the original creation of the series, Hanna & Barbera created 114 cartoons between 1940 & 1959 at the MGM Studios in Hollywood.

William Hanna and Joseph Barbera created Tom and Jerry. The team wrote and directed 114 Tom and Jerry cartoon films for MGM and won 7 Academy Awards for those efforts. Barberra passed away of natural causes at the age of 95 in 2006.
