Augusto Pinochet was a career army officer and military dictator of Chile from 1973 to 1970 Salvador Allende, the President of Chile gave Pinochet complete command of the Army.After his death Pinochet promptly appointed himself President until transferring power to a democratically elected president in 1990.

Augusto Pinochet was a very famous and very acclaimed and celebrated Chilean army general. He assumed power on September 11th in the year of 1973. He was also the commander in chief of the Chilean army from 1973 to 1988, among other positions and accolades. He died on December 10th, 2006 at the age of 91.

He was the Commander-in-Chief of the Chilean army from 1973 to 1998, president of the Government Junta of Chile from 1973 to 1974 and President of the Republic from 1974 until transferring power to a democratically elected president in 1990.
