Based from my experience of purchasing hiking boots, I would say the Zamberlan Steep would stand out, for heavy and rough terrain. The overall construction of the boots doesnt only support the ankle, mid-foot area but also provides comfort in which any standard boot may cause stress and discomfort.

I would say North Face, Timberland, or MERRELL. It all depends on what makes you feel most comfortable. I have had my same pair of North Face shoes for 5 years now and they are still awesome and going strong. Some companies will replace the sole after a period of time, which is awesome too.
