The opening verses state that it was written by Joel himself, which is not doubted. Joel was probably written in Judah, or maybe Jerusalem, in 800 to 400 BCE.

The book of Joel is a short book in the Old Testament and is one of the 12 minor prophets. That comes from the books being very short rather than not having significance. The author is identified as Joel, the son of Pethuel. We really do not have any more historical evidence on who the author is.

From a evangelical viewpoint the human author of the book of Joel was the prophet Joel. But he didn't come up with the ideas expressed in the book. We believe that God the creator influnced and inspired Joel to write and speak what he did and have it recorded in the book
