Who invented the light bulb?

The first lightbulb was built by Humphry Davy in 1809. Thomas Edison later refined this design after purchasing the patent. Sir Joseph Swan independently invented the lightbulb in 1860, too.

The light bulb was invented by Thomas Alva Edison in 1879. It is important to note that this fact is disputed by some as there were several other inventors trying to create a light bulb at the same time. Some of them even started trying prior to Thomas Alva Edison.
