No names are associated with the invention of fireworks, but the Chinese were the first to use them, using them as far back as the seventh century A. D. to scare evil spirits away. Other than that, use of fireworks was reserved for the wealthy and the royals until the Ming Dynasty.

In China around 400 years ago, alchemists who were trying to create precious metals accidentally mixed the wrong ingredients and created an explosion. This unintentional power was soon harnessed into guns and later fireworks. Who actually came up with fireworks is unknown.
