Saul the Pharisee was studying to become a rabbi for the first part of his life. A Roman citizen, he found himself in Jerusalem at one point and, even stranger, became an apostle. He is more commonly known as Paul, and wrote a great many letters and speeches on behalf of the new Christian movement.

Saul would later change his name to Paul. His story is written in the book of Acts in the New Testament. He started out persecuting Christians but then converted himself after a dramatic experience on the road to Damascus. He went on many missionary trips preaching Christianity and wrote books.
