The top ten music lists are decided based on record sales. Companies, such as Billboard, compile these record sales weekly and determine the top ten artists in each musical genre. Record sales can be compiled based on computer networking between different record stores around the country via the internet, as well as worldwide.

It is usually decided by how much a record or single is selling or being requested on the radio, but this method is flawed.

Nobody "decides" on the Top Ten, instead it is calculated by gathering up the sales figures for the various singles from stores and the number of downloads from online too.
