A hardship letter can be written by an attorney, a paralegal, or someone with legal training. Immigrants can write them, as well, but are less likely to have the letters accepted by the court as proof of hardship.

You can write the hardship letter , however hardship letters tend to be accepted in court when written by someone with legal training like a lawyer or paralegal.

I am requesting to remain in the United States. It would be a hardship for me to return to my country of origin. I do not have the economic opportunities that I have in the states, and I will not be able to support my family if I am not allowed to remain here.

A hardship letter can be written by you but it does not carry as much weight in court as that written by a professional. Professionals can include lawyers, paralegals, or just about anyone with legal training. The more "professional" the person, the higher the likelihood of being accepted.

Anyone with any kind of legal training can write a hardship letter. Like a lawyer or paralegal. The immigrat his/her self can also write the letter. Getting someone with a legal background to do it means a more likely chance of acceptance.
