The inventor of corrective fluid was Bette Nesmith Graham. She was a secretary who also longed to be an artist. One day she realized that if artists could cover their mistakes with paint, then secretaries could cover theirs with something similar. She mixed tempera paint to match her paper, put it in a bottle, and called the product Mistake Out.

An insurance man, George Kloosterhouse; and a man who worked with chemicals, Edwin Johanknecht. They got together and created a water-based correction fluid. This was back in 1966 in Washington, DC. They created their business in 1971 and called their product "Wite-Out". In 1981 the company was bought out and the new owners created a solvent based product.

Correction fluid was invented by a secretary named Bette Nesmith Graham in 1951. She was the founder of Liquid Paper. She put some fast drying paint in a bottle and took it to work with her to paint over any mistakes she made as a type writer. It was first called Mistake out but later changed to Liquid Paper.
