The original 13 colonies were: New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Rhode Island, and Delaware. These were the organized states that comprised the American side in the American Revolution. Each original colony was established for some practical goal, such as freedom from religious persecution or economic expansion.
