The most common type of filters are a standard fiberglass or a pleated filter. In either case one side has a metal screen of one sort another this is the side that goes towards the unit. Most manufacturers put an arrow on edge of filter indicating air flow direction.

On the filter itself, there are arrows that show the direction of the airflow. You want to install the filter so that the direction of the air, i. e. the outside air coming into the unit, is flowing in the same direction in which the arrows are indicating.

There will be an arrow on the filter indicating the "flow." The arrow on the filter should follow the flow of air into the system. In most cases, this simply means the arrow points into the system. For in-line filters, just check the direction with a strip of paper.

All the ones I have ever changed have an arrow on the cardboard frame that shows the direction. The arrow should point in the same direction as the airflow. Easier yet, just notice the arrow direction when removing the old filter, assuming it was correct.

Well basically the air filter goes in the upward direction. You have to place it upside top and then install accordingly. Do not by mistake put it the wrong way. The filter won't work then.

Central-air-conditioner & forced-air-furnace filters are marked with air-flow-direction-arrow(s). USUALLY: Place the filter in the air-handler-unit/main-air-return-duct with arrow(s) pointing toward the fan, heat exchanger, and/or air-supply-ducts.

Well the air generally flows in the direction that it is installed in. If the air conditioner is installed on the right, the air flows to the right.

There is no right or wrong way to put the filter in you just slide it into the slot that is made for it and you have completed the job.

Take out the old filter, which might be upside down, and lick your finger and place where filter fits- insert the filter with the arrow going the same way as the draft you feel from the blower. Mine has been upside down for years!

If the filter's maker is the same as the unit it should have arrows pointing this side up or down,Most the time their is no right way or wrong way.

You are going to want to slide it in so that the open end is facing inwards. It will catch the stuff that way.
