A hurricane includes water and extreme winds while tornado includes high winds that have the capability of lifting items into the air. In this respect, tornadoes are much more dangerous as they can severely redesign the area they cover.

In terms of potential loss of life, I'd have to go with a hurricane. In 1900, the Galveston hurricane resulted in the deaths of over 6,000 people. Katrina killed 1,836 people, with an estimated 705 more unaccounted for. The super tornado outbreak of 1974 had 330 fatalities.

Both are dangerous, but hurricane alerts give a lot of time for evacuation or preparation. A tornado alert can be only a few minutes, which creates a more dangerous situation for human safety.

a tornado has winds up to 315mph and more while a hurricane has winds only up to 115mph dont get me wrong they are both deadly but if you would switch them the tornado would have more kills and the hurricane wouldnt have as much as it does now.

A F5 tornado has winds of 315 and Cat5 hurricane has winds of 155, but the hurricane has more widespread damage and last longer than a tornado, even on a good day if an F5 hits it will not do more damage than a Cat5 hurricane i.e. Andrew,Katrina&Mitch.  add a comment

A Tornado is more dangerous than a hurricane because a tornado is unpredictable where as a hurricane is predictable.A tornado wind speed can reach up to 318 mph or higher where a hurricane speed can only reach up to 131 mph. The only bad thing about a hurricane is water.

Hurrican covers a large portion compare to tornado. The hurrican comes with wind velocity of 75kph!It devastates everything. If rain combines with the wind no government can survive the calamity. Examle Katherina made the nation go crippled for months. But tornado can do equal harm only to small area.
