The piece "Fences" is the sixth installation in Wilson's Cycle dedicated to the documentation of life in the as an African-American throughout the decades. "Fences" takes place in the 1950's but was not necessarily written after "Seven Guitars" set in the 1940's since the parts are not in chronological order.
