Where do you learn how to use a sewing machine?

I inherited one from my aunt and I don't know where to start.

Sometimes fabric and craft shops offer lessons, or special deals on lessons with fabric purchases. You can also check the yellow pages for people who do tailoring and alterations. They might give you some lessons for a small fee. Do you have another relative who can show you how to use the machine?

If you have a local fabric or sewing supply shop, they will often hold free/low-cost classes that teach beginning sewing. Also, your local community college might hold beginner sewing classes as well. For private sewing lessons, you could try posting an ad on craigslist - carefully screen whoever applies, though!

The internet offers wonderful resources for learning to sew. All you have to do is Google "learn to sew" and you will come up with many websites offering instruction. Sometimes fabric stores offer sewing classes for a fee. Where I live, the senior center offers free sewing classes.

I would go to your local fabric store and see if there is some kind of class that you can take. That would be a good place to start.
