Where can I get import car insurance?

I am going to be importing my car to Costa Rica and would like to insure it before it leaves.

Call the Insurance Agent that you now have the insurance with. He can tell you what steps and laws you need to know about before sending it on. Maybe it is not cost effective to do this. I would expect to give this transport a little time. These are usually done by freight liners or cargo airplanes.

Contact a surplus lines carrier through an insurance agent for coverage en route. Once there, protect yourself with coverage as your American policy will not cover you there.

Licensed auto transporters are generally required to carry liability and cargo insurance and the cost of this should be included in the rate charged to you for their service. This should cover any potential loss or damage during shipping.
