Check the Apple Outlet store, an unpublished industry secret. By law, Apples initially returned to the company due to defects must be repaired by the company. Apple, then overstocked with inventory, resells these computers at significantly lower prices. The outlet store carries iPhones up through desktops.

You might be able to get small discounts from retailers such as Best Buy occasionally, but don't count on it. If you are a student, you will get a sizable discount online. Try the clearance section of the Apple online store, too.

Look in the yellow pages for 3rd party mac retailers or go to best buy. there is also to apple refurb store.

Usually some online stores may have good deals, so you may want to check out stores such as Best Buy, Frys etc. Other than that, Apply also has discounts for students, employees of certain companies etc. Be very careful if you intend to buy a desktop from any other store - since it may not be legit.

Most people who purchase Macs will not sell them for much less than you see them for at the store. The only way to get a good deal is to purchase a refurb from Apple on their website, or to look for gently used Macs online which you are easy to find.

Consider checking traditional discount online retailers -- Tigerdirect and similar stores have been known to offer good deals on electronics, especially on holidays (think Black Friday and Boxing Day. As well, if you're willing to purchase a used model, try Craigslist or Ebay. Though there may be some risk, the deals to be had can't be beat.
