When were the Chesapeake colonies founded?

The Chesapeake colonies refer to Virginia and Maryland. Both of these colonies were founded in the seventeenth century: Virginia in 1607, Maryland in 1632. The two colonies earned this joint name because they surround the Chesapeake Bay.

The Colony of Virginia was first founded in 1607 with the settlement of Jamestown. The Province of Maryland was officially founded in 1632 and had the first settlement in 1635 (St. Mary's City). Delaware was first settled by the Swedes in 1638 with the settlement of Fort Christiana.
