When a dog should be neutered depends on the breed of dog. For most dogs getting neutered at about 2-6 months is normal. If the dog is a larger breed should be neutered after 1 year, but no later than 2 years. This is because larger breeds require the extra hormones to ensure appropriate bone density.

You can get your puppy neutered around 6 months of age. However if your dog has medical problems he may need to wait. Ask your Vet what he thinks.

The key when planning out the neutering procedure for your dog is to have the dog neutered before he hits puberty. This will prevent any behavior issues before the hormones kick in! Usually, you can have the procedure done around the 8 week old timeframe, as long as both of the testicles had been descended.

A male dog should be neutered before reaching sexual maturity. If you get your dog from a shelter, they will usually perform the surgery before you can take them.
