Human beings and dogs are different species... You can't get any more obvious than that, right? Sometimes we forget it, this is a good example to illustrate it. We sweat through our skin to get rid of the heat, but dogs do it by opening their mouths. Hair has nothing to do with it, so don't shave your dog!

It is not a good idea to shave a Sheltie as their coat insulates their body from outside temperature and keeps him cool. Use shedding tools to lighten the coat.

A dog's coat is designed to deflect heat and cold. By shaving an animal with long fur, you are taking away its ability to keep itself cool. Brushing is best.

The Shetland breed doesn't need to be shaved other than for grooming purposes. They have a dual coat that keeps them warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
