What's wrong if my pool pump hums and then shuts off?

Answer by  srainne (2597)

It sounds like the impeller of the pump may be clogged - or busted. Shut the pump off, then spin the impeller shaft. If it doesn't spin, you'll have to disconnect the motor part and inspect the impeller and clean it out. If it does spin, it could be the motor itself.
