Address it to the hiring manager. Say clearly you are responding to the posting for the position. Reference your resume so they will check it out.

In your cover letter you should let the business know why you are the best candidate. This is where in the application process you can let your individuality shine. You also want to let the business know that your wrote the cover letter for them by including some of the history of the company you are applying for.

It must fit on one page, and give a sense of who you are that is otherwise missing from the resume. It should demonstrate your knowledge of the business and your likelihood to fit within the organization.

Your letter should be only one short page, present clearly the position you are applying for, why you feel you are the best person for it and how enthusiastic you are. You should finish with taking control, ie do not leave the next step to the prospective employer. Example: "I will call you next week to discuss this further. "
