They would first start by stretching the feet out. They would also use heat thearpy to get the muscle loosened up. They will then flatten out the foot, over a number of visits. It is also important to make sure it is just a muscle weakness problem and not something else.

Expect some ankle exercises to stretch a tight heel cord that will restore the foot to a normal position, allowing the foot to be placed flat on the ground.

Therapy will address muscle tightness, weakness, muscle imbalances, the need for orthotic intervention, and deficits in sensory processing, balance and coordination. A physical therapy program for toe walking will include stretching, strengthening, serial casting, orthoses, desensitization activities, and instructions for a home program. To recieve appropriate treatment, a thorough neuromuscular examination is essential to assess a potential underlying cause.

To assist a patient with preventing toe walking a therapist will begin by stretching out the patients feet. The goal is to make certain that the muscles and tendons in the foot are stretched and not the cause of the problem
