If you have blocked gutters it can cause water to seep through the walls of your house and the dampness can cause black mold to form.

Black Mold would be caused, above all, by prolonged exposure to a fair amount of moisture. This is pretty common in basements so it is hard to counteract. A dehumidifier may slow down the process.

Black mold occurs when a mold organism is introduced in to a damp area and it begins to feed on the water. To remove it, you need to eliminate the source of water or moisture (the mold's food) and then scrub the surfaces with a water diluted bleach solution.
