What was The Anaconda Plan?

A military strategy during the American Civil War, that was proposed by General Winfield Scott, to strangle the South by Union naval and land forces.

This was General Scott's plan to cut the south from between into two pieces and barricading their supplies. This was the Anaconda plan.

The Anaconda Plan was the name given for General Scott's idea to subdue the Confederate Army. His plan consisted of barricading enemy supply ports and then cutting through the middle of the South to separate them into two pieces. This plan was going to be long and contracted, but effective much like an anaconda killing its prey.
