What use is a phonetic dictionary?

They already tell you how to pronounce the word in a regular dictionary.

Oh really? Guess you're right. Or maybe some people can't figure out how to use the tools provided and actually have to hear the word being said. That's like saying movies aren't useful because everything can be visually described. We are working in two entirely different mediums here. So there.

Phonemes are word sounds. Thus, a phonetic dictionary provides information as to how words are pronounced. This can be particularly useful for someone giving a speech when they have been reading about certain unfamiliar words, but do not know if they are pronouncing those words accurately.
