Definitely use ground-based spotlights pointing upward from the tree's base. Depending on the party's theme, you could use different colors as well. Not gaudy, but simple colors. Don't fall victim to the tiki torches or hanging candles. Palm Trees are simple and elegant trees Keep the lighting for them elegant and simple too.

Try using holiday lights to decorate as they are very festive. You can wrap the light around the palm tree and it will add color (dependent on the lights you choose) and keep you party well-lit into the night. If you are going for a more subtle look, try using spotlights. Lawn spotlights are available at local hardware stores.

You can use ground spot lights or hang white christmas tree lights around the base of the trees. Spot lights pointing up from the ground always makes a great statement.
