Only the blue-green algae are included in the cyanobacteria kingdom. These organisms are actually bacteria and technically not algae. Algae is a word reserved for eukaryotic organisms, living beings with its genetic materials enclosed in a nuclear membrane.

Cyano- means blue; hence blue green algae are included in cyanobacteria. They frequently are algae which have incorporated a chloroplast into their structure from the bacterial kingdom. Algae are not normally bacteria, but the cyanobacteria is an almost in-between structure while biologists argue - are they bacteria or algae. Bacteria on steroids in the process of becoming algae, my opinion.
